Vanessa Ferrari, as always was the best gymnast of the competition, receiving her highest AA total of this season so far, a high 58.200 and placing first in the individual competition. The highlight was her floor routine, clean and stuck landings for a good 15.05 (6.3). She’s having some troubles trying to connect the back tuck to the full in and she’s intending to connect a split jump after the double layout . With those upgrades, her D score could reach a great 6.6. The DTY on vault was good despite some leg form (14.70), beam and bars went ok, even if there were some minor issues ( 14.45 14.00).

Elisa Meneghini redeemed herself after the bad competition she had a week ago and came second in the AA, 56.550. A high and clean Yurchenko 1 1⁄2 (14.60), hit both bars and beam (13.5014.45) and had a good upgraded floor routine (5.7 14.00) even if she went OOB with both feet on her last pass, a double pike.

Erika Fasana completes the podium with a nice 56.400. Her DTY was the best of the night, really improved since last year ( 14.80) and floor was brilliant too (14.30), even if she’s supposed to add back the double double, which will raise her D score to a big 6.1. Her bars are becoming more stable and useful ( 13.90) while her beam suffers a bit of messy form (13.40).

These 3 athletes are pretty much locks for the Worlds Championships and will probably do all the apparatus in the qualification round.

After some problems with her shoulder, Giorgia Campana proved to be useful on bars her beam, posting the second highest score on bars (13.95) and the fourth on beam ( 13.80), claiming a well deserved spot for Nanning.

Lavinia Marongiu, Lara Mori and Martina Rizzelli are the other 3 gymnasts who are supposed to be on the team, but who will be the reserve?

Martina has a DTY on vault, but it appears uglier than in the past. She has a huge legs separation on her block and not the best form in the air (14.50). As EYOF UB champion, she should be useful on bars, but she isn’t as clean anymore and she’s earning very low scores (13.30).

Lara Mori posted her highest score ever on bars ( 13.80) with a clean set and also was one of the best of the day on floor (13.90). Too bad she fell on beam, which used to be her best apparatus, and has a not so strong FTY on vault (13.40).

Lavinia Marongiu came out on nowhere in the last few weeks. She didn’t have the best day, posting low scores on bars and floor ( 12.90 – 12.95), while beam was ok ( 13.95) and her FTY was nice too ( 14.05).

Outside the gymnasts fighting for Nanning, there are some honorable mentions.

Carlotta Ferlito returned to competition after almost a year. She only competed beam, a littledowngraded , and had a great exercise, bhsbhs layout stepout, front aerial+ sheep jump, wolf jump+aerial cartwheel, 2 1⁄2 twist dismount. She’s confident on this apparatus and even if her dismount needs work, she posted the third score of the day. If she had just another apparatus ready, she could have gone to Worlds.

Adriana Crisci, the veteran of the team, came back from the ACL injury and was great on vault (14.55) and floor ( 13.50).

Despite never being in contention for international assignments, Arianna Rocca proved herself once again. Aside from bars , her worst apparatus, she had good scores on vault (14.25), beam (13.95) and floor ( 13.60). Being a vault specialist with a rare layout tsukahara full, adding some difficulty there can give her more opportunities to be considered.

Sofia Bonistalli has thrown the forth DTY of the Italian team, a very nice one actually. Too bad she has no other competitive apparatus.

In the end, Brixia won the Golden league ( 278.00), Gal was in second ( 266.05), Olos in third (253.65) and Forza e Virtù was fourth ( 249.85).

Event Finals

Vault

In the official vault final Arianna Rocca won with two easy vaults ( FTY, front piked half), Adriana Crisci was second ( yurchenko 1 1⁄2 , tsukahara layout) and Desireè Carofiglio came in third ( FTY, yurchenko layout).

Erika Fasana won the second final with a nice DTY ( 15.00) even if she had some forms issues and the landing was close to the table. Sofia Busato surprisingly was second with a huge Yurchenko 1 1⁄2 ( 14.70) with a huge hop on the landing. She’s already working on a DTY and it appears to be ready judging from the power she had here. Vanessa Ferrari had some trouble during the warm-up, landing scarily, but at the end she did a nice DTY ( 14.65) with slight bent legs. Elisa Meneghini did a nice and clean Yurchenko 1 1⁄2 ( 14.60) for the fourth place, while Martina Rizzelli again had problems in the block and performed a not so good DTY (14.50).

Bars

The final started with huge mistakes, 3 falls from Lara Mori and 2 from Elisa Meneghini. Giorgia Campana came first with a neat routine, not much difficulty but a solid exercise ( 14.05). Vanessa Ferrari isn’t the cleanest bars worker, but has the highest difficulty and despite some legs separations she won the silver medal ( 14.00). Erika Fasana was solid and did her job with a stuck double layout dismount ( 13.65). Martina Rizzelli fell again, not showing the consistency the teams needs.

Beam

The beam final was quite exciting, with many good routines. Elisa Meneghini had one of her most solid beam ever, just some adjustments here and there, and a sky high double piked dismount, she also hit the front aerial+split jump connection ( 14.70). Vanessa Ferrari also hit a great set, with a bhs+bhs+layout, front aerial+sheep jump, switch ring. Her only problem was a bad switch half with a wobble ( 14.65). Lavinia Marongiu won the bronze medal with a confident routine, no wobbles, the only Onodi of the entire competition and a stuck double tuck dismount ( 14.45). Carlotta Ferlito came in fourth with a downgraded dismount, a double twist, and had a pretty solid routine despite some minor wobbles ( 14.30). Giorgia Campana hit a nice set too and was fifth (14.15).

Floor

Vanessa decided to skip this final since she was tired and didn’t want the risk to get injured. Erika Fasana did an excellent job with an almost stuck double layout and a nice full in, she also has grown a lot in terms of choreography and interpretation and gave a good performance ( 14.05).

Lara Mori hit all her difficult passes , full in and whip triple twist, and did an energetic performance despite some little problems on the landings ( 13.70). Junior Sofia Busato was third with a simple but clean performance (13.35) while Elisa Meneghini fell on the new double layout (12.85) and Martina Rizzelli had a messy routine ( 12.85).

Enrico Casella announced that the 7 gymnasts going to Worlds are, as previously mentioned, Ferrari, Fasana, Meneghini, Campana, Marongiu, Mori and Rizzelli but that the alternate will be decided later, even if Lara Mori appears to be in that position right now. This team has a great potential to be in top eight teams in Nanning, but consistency is the key.
