On the bars podium she was followed by Ekaterina Kramarenko, who remains a beautiful (and inconsistent) worker on this event, and by Maria Paseka on third place.

Maria Kharenkova won the beam title after earning the highest score on the event on each day of competition. The final routine was not her best (with big wobbles on leaps) but you could still see how well prepared she was on this apparatus by the way in which she fought to stay on. Kharenkova was also 3rd on floor and 4th of bars. With routines out of 6.0 D score on both bars and floor , all she is missing now is a more difficult vault in order for her to make a strong bid for future all around assignments in international competitions.

The floor title went to Ksenia Afanasieva who had by far the highest difficulty on the event (6.4). I watched her floor routine several times and loved the polish of the movements and the amplitude of elements. In terms of choreo, the new routine misses the mark slightly: there is a a lot of static arm movement and not enough dance. But those are very pretty shapes created, nonetheless.

Perhaps the second most talked-about floor routine was Anastasia Dimitrieva’s. The first year senior impressed though her dance and original choreography.

The biggest upset of the event finals was Viktoria Komova falling on both bars and beam. Komova looked to be in good shape on both events but will need a bit more repetitions and upgrades in order to compete with the likes of Spiridonova and Kharenkova on bars and beam respectively. The two are posting D scores in the mid 6s and are very consistent. It would be tough to justify Komova’s position in an individual Euro team under these circumstances.

Maria Paseka and Seda Tutkhalyan also did well at these championships, with medals on their favorite events, but came short of delivering everything they were capable of.

As the competition for making the team increases, the gymnasts (provisionally) named to represent Russia at 2015 Euros look to be strong contenders for medals, and even gold, in all four event finals.
