The PanAmerican Games will take place between the 10th and the 26th of July in Toronto, Canada. The gymnastics competition is set to begin on the 11th of July.
Following rigorous selection, USA Gymnastics officially announced their team, on the 2nd of July: “The five members of the U.S. Pan American Women’s Gymnastics Team are: Madison Desch of Lenexa, Kan./GAGE; Rachel Gowey of Urbandale, Iowa/Chow’s Gymnastics; Amelia Hundley of Fairfield, Ohio/Cincinnati Gymnastics; Emily Schild of Huntersville, N.C./Everest Gymnastics; and Megan Skaggs of Marietta, Ga./Gymnastics Academy of Atlanta”.
Three alternates were also selected: Felicia Hano, Lauren Navarro and Nia Dennis.
Madison Desch has previously competed as a senior with the national team at the Jesolo Trophy (2014 and 2015), the 2014 PanAmerican Championships and was an alternate for the 2014 Nanning Worlds.
Chow’s Rachel Gowey was to becoming the most notable addition of the 2014 US National team and one of the favorites for a spot in the 2014 Worlds team when she fractured her ankle on a beam dismount at the 2014 National championships. She was out for the rest of the season.
This will be 2nd major international competition for Amelia Hundley, who has also competed at the 2014 PanAms.
Emily Schild receives her 1st major assignment after being added to the National team earlier this year. She has also competed at the 2015 Jesolo.
Megan Skaggs is a first year senior; she was 9th in the all around at the 2014 Junior Nationals.
