Germany earned their team spot at the Olympics after finishing the day with a total of 223.977. They are now 2nd overall after Brazil, with just two more teams to go. Germany started on balance beam, with a lot of emotions and a few wry skills from Alt (14.066) and then Tratz (11.200). Scheder was also quite nervous and only managed a 12.300 for her routine. But worlds bronze medalist Pauline Schaefer (14.50) and the experienced Elisabeth Seitz (13.500) boosted the team total on this event. On floor, Leah Griesser was charming and received a 13.866 of her performance while the rest of the team hit their routines as well, despite a lower level of difficulty overall: 13.766 for Scheder, 13.66 for Alt and 13.133 for Tratz were the scores that counted. On vault Schaefer broke the mold with a handspring front layout for 14.366, followed by 4 clean Yurchenko fulls. The bars rotation was the highlight of their competition, proving once again that they are one of the top team in the world on this event: two scores of 15+ (from Seitz and Scheder) and two in the low 14s (Alt and Grieser) counted towards their team total.

South Korea finished with just a 203.838 total. Vault, where they throw four full twisting Yurchenkos, was their highlight event. Although they had good skills and portions on bars and beam, they didn’t manage to hit full routines and their scores really suffered.

Team results after three subdivisions:

The top individual competitors of thir subdivision were:

Ana Sofia Gomez from Guatemala, who finished with a huge 55.640 all around score after top performances on beam (14.233) and vault (14.366). Marcia Vidiaux  from Cuba finished with a 53.832 total; her best scoring event was vault (14.800). Claudia Colom from Spain finished with 53.732, after consistent performance in the 13’s on all four events. Unfortunately Emma Larsson from Sweden had a terrible day, with falls on bars and beam, but her total of  51.499 should keep her in contention for a spot. Phan Thi Ha Thanh from Vietnam  didn’t have the most brilliant competition either, finishing with a 52.700 but she did ok on vault (14.30) and beam (13.800).
