The 29th Summer Universiade is under way in Tapei City, and artistic  gymnastics concluded on Tuesday. We were treated to a solid performance by Larisa Iordache as she cemented a serious comeback after an ill-timed injury sidelined her right before Rio, as well as Elsabeth Black who appears right on track to deliver at World’s on home turf. Asuka Teramoto and the Japanese contingent delivered across the board, and Lilia Akhaimova of Russia earned a place on the podium twice, not a bad result for a gymnast who’s just beginning to receive big international assignments. Brittany Rogers of Canada won gold on vault, Daria Spiridonova made up for a disappointing All-Around performance (after a better qualifying one) with a  gold on bars, and Kim Bui delivered Germany’s one individual medal after they placed fourth in the Team Final. Russia’s Evgenia Shelgunova found herself in the frustrating position of just missing the podium twice, once in the All Around Final and once in the Beam Final.
