Subdivision two with Japan, Australia and South Korea: none of these teams should have problems qualifying for next year’s worlds (top 24). Japan will be a team final favorite, capable of huge scores despite missing some of their major players (Aiko Sugihara and Sae Miyakawa).

Japan started on vault with Hatakeda  and Yurchenko 1 1/2 with a hop 13.533/5.0, followed by Aiko Sugihara Yurchenko full 13.333/4.6; then a  Rudi from Asuka Teramoto (chest low)  14.433/5.8 and a  Yurchenko double full with a hop back from Mai Murakami  14.433/5.4. Good solid start!

Watch all the routines here:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EW9tHnR6Cd0

On bars Nagi Kajita started with a massive routine: Nabieva, Pak, van Leeuwen, a bit late in pirouettes, pike Jaeger, meesy but makes it  (13.550/5.7). Mai Murakami hit (Maloney to Gienger a bit close, piked Jaeger, straddle Jaeger )  for 13.666/ Hatekeda had a clean routine (Maloney half, inside stalder blind to piked Jaeger, Ricna) 13.800/5.7.

On beam Hitomi Hatakeda hit the opening routine with a 13.133/5.1. Teramoto also contributed nicely, but lacked the fluidity of other times: double turn (check) Onodi, flick – loso, aerial + two jumps, switch 1/2 big check, switch leap to side somi, triple full with big step 13.133 /5.1. Mai Murakami had a fantastic time on beam: leaps onto the beam, aerial, two leaps series, punch front, flick-loso, side aerial, front tuck, double pike with step 13.433/5.4.

On floor, Kajita, Hatakeda and Teramoto did their job well with routines in the mid 12’s. World champion Mai Murakami had a great routine: triple turn, Silivas, double layout, 2 1/2 to full twisting front, double L turn, pike double 14.10/5.8. The team finished with 162.18 and currently sits in 1st place.

Australia started on floor with good routines but no flashy scores: Eade  (double layout, 1 1/2 to double tuck) 12.9/5.2; Whitehead (double Arabian, double tuck, double pike ) 12.533/4.7 Erin Modaro (double back tuck, front 1 1/2, double pike) 12.6/4.6

On vault Erin Modaro, Alex Eade and Georgia-Rose Brown all did good Yurchenko fulls (GBR’s was stuck) for scores in the mid 13’s. Emily whitehead crashed her Yurchenko 1 1/2. Bars was a good rotation with a decent total of 38.700: Nedov 12.33/4.5, Modaro 12.4/4.6, while Brown scored a good 13.400.

Beam was always going to be tricky for them: low difficulty means the execution needs to be on point. Whitehead flick, back pike falls, punch front, double wolf turn, check, aerial, side aerial, 1 1/2 dismount Mihai is not pleased 11.566/ 4.800; Modaro: punch front mount, layout to two feet series with check, back tuck with check, switch leap switch 1/2, Korbut, side split 1/2, flick-flick 1/1/2 12.633/5.1, Nedov: flick- flick- layout to 2 w check, aerial to split jump, side jump check, switch ring leap (a bit iffy), punch front, double pike with step very nervous 11.933/4.9 GBR also suffered a beam disaster with a fall and multiple wobbles. The team finished with 153.231 and currently sits in 4th place.

South Korea had a good day with clean executions across the board (despite lower difficulty). They started on bars where the best routine was delivered by Yun Narae (12.366). Yeo Seojeong also brought a good score for the team 11.908. Beam went better with three routines in the mid 12’s Yeo Seojeong 12.600, Kim Jury 12.566, Lee Eun Ju 12.633. Yeo Seojeong  impressed with her clean tumbling on floor 12.966; On vault she scored 14.566/5.8 for a very well executed Rudi. The team finished with a 153.237 total and currently sits on 3rd place.

Legend Oksana Chusovitina also competed in this subdivision. Her vaults were handspring front 1/1 and tsuk 1 1/2 for an average of 14.2 which should be good enough for vault final.
