On the 10th of April, the Brazilian Gymnastics Confederation announced its team for the upcoming Brazilian Challenger, to be held in São Paulo, the country’s largest city, between the 1st and 3rd of May 2015.
The exciting news related to Friday’s announcement is that Flávia Saraiva is set to compete. The AA silver medalist at the 2014 Youth Olympics in Nanning has turned senior this year.
Flávia Saraiva has surprised the public with her result and her delicate, clean performance, although she ended up competing at the YOG after her teammate, Rebecca Andrade, withdrew. Saraiva’s best events are, undoubtedly, balance beam and floor exercise. Despite having a low difficulty score on bars, a weaker event for the Brazilians, Flavia performs cleanly and is able to show beautiful lines. This usually secures her good execution scores. On vault, Flavia is working on upgrading her Yurchenko full to a double twisting.
Also figuring in the Brazilian WAG team will be Rebecca Andrade and Lorrane dos Santos, who recently achieved good results at the 2015 Liubjana Challenge: Andrade got a bronze medal on bars, despite two big errors on her routine, and Lorrane – a silver medal on beam. Wrapping up the Brazilian team will be the 20 year old Leticia Costa, gymnast from the traditional Flamengo club and current Brazilian champ on the uneven bars.
Other nations represented in São Paulo are:
China: Deng Yalan, Shang Chunsong, Chen Siyi, Tan Jiaxin
Germany: Elisabeth Seitz, Leah Griesser, Sophe Scheder
Mexico: Elsa Garcia, Ana Lago
