Back by popular demand, we give you in the first edition of the LFP in what seems like … weeks, but was more than a year. A look back at some of the most influential or interesting leotards of this year’s Euros, with:

Sara Dorrien – Editor of TCG

Emma MoominWhiskey – author of MoominWhisky Meets

and yours truly.

Here we go:

afanasyeva

Ksenia Afanasyeva

Sara: I’m not a huge fan of the neckline but the colors work well for her. The black and white are classic and mature, appropriate for the two-time Olympian, and the little splash of green is youthful, reflecting the fresh performance she gave in Montpellier.

Emma:  What’s not to love about Afan? Not many girls can pull off white and Afan, along with Filipa Martins from Portugal made this white one look good. I like this one a lot.

Bea: I love how Emma points out who else wore this, you know why, because she knows and appreciates all the gymnasts! Back to Afana: she has such a striking personality that whenever she wears something a bit unusual, she makes it look stunning. Not my favorite of the batch, but one I will always remember it now.

carlotta

Carlotta Ferlito

Sara: More than any other, this leo makes me realize my vocabulary is seriously lacking when it comes to fashion. Do we call the nude colored part mesh? Anyway, I think I like this but I keep squinting and turning my head to confirm it. Someone else decide.

Emma: Love it, big fan of green/blue/teal and this is very pretty.

Bea: Loved the color, not so much the design. But I do wish we saw more green leotards out there.

ellie

Ellie Downie

Sara: I like it. It’s a nice twist on the standard GB leo. The royal blue, the sweetheart top, the tasteful jewels. Perfect for a debut ball. She looks lovely.

Emma:  Just when I thought GB were entering a not so great phase of Leo’s (American Cup, Euro quals) along comes this beauty. I love it, love love love it’s my second favourite from Euros.

Bea: Hands down my favorite of this batch. It has a little bit of everything I could ask for: a beautiful color, the sweetheart is a bit retro/classic even, the silvery embellishments in the chest area make it unique.

fasana

Erika Fasana

Sara: Mmmmm…nope. Erika needs a leo that complements her exciting gymnastics, and this leo would suggest it’s the other way around. (“HEY, Judges, Look at ME!”) There’s just too much going on.

Emma: This is a classic Italian one lots of sass lots of zig zags and I know Erika likes this one a lot – her red/black version of it is her favourite though. I love the Italians for their individuality.

Bea: Erika makes it work to a certain extent, the fact that there is too much going on is tempered by the more conservative colours and… coverage. Good but I would like to see her in something brighter next time, I think she would look good.

giulia

Giulia Steingruber

Sara: All in all, I like this, especially because she won. It was a history-making performance and should have been executed in a unique color and style, which this leo is. It’s almost a royal purple, but someone understated. Worked well.

Emma: Very nice, purple is always a good colour and this one looked very good on her.

Bea: Anything looks better when golden. This will always be the perfect leotard for Giulia’s perfect day.

Kaeslin

Ilaria Kaeslin

Sara: For some reason I find this hard on the eyes. I think it might be the particular shade of green; it makes the leo look extra metallic-y. Anyone else?

Emma: Kaeslin would make a bin bag look good. This is a decent Leo however fairly standard nothing too fancy or original about it

Bea: Full disclosure: this was just a trick to remind ourselves that Ilaria was at Euros, despite not having qualified for a final. I do like the leotard. To me, this is something Ukraine would have worn circa 1997 and Ukraine rocked back then so I like it.

……….

Stay tuned, part two coming up soon.

So, which one was your favorite?
