The latest gymnastics event in the World Cup circuit took place in Anadia, Portugal, between the 21st and the 24th of May.  Medals were awarded on each of the four apparatuses.

The Cuban Marcia Videaux impressed with her two difficult and powerful vaults (double twisting Tsukahara and Rudi) for an average of 15.112. In silver medal position was Mexico’s Alexa Moreno (also with double twisting Tsukahara and Rudi). Makarena Pinto from Chile, who threw a front handspring full in tuck position and a Tsukahara 1 1/2, was third.

On bars Jessica Lopez hit her immense routine (6.5 D) and won by a huge margin of over a point (her score was 14.850). It was not a faultless one for Lopez but she hit her ambitious connections (pike Tkachev to Pak – with a leg separation here) clear hip circle 1/1 to Tkachev to inbar pike Jaeger. Portugal’s Ana Filipa Martins and Cuba’s Marcia Videaux placed 2nd and 3rd respectively.

Emma Larsson, who made a name for herself as an outstanding Junior talent at an European level, won her first senior gold medal in the World Cup circuit. A D score of only 5.5 would not necessarily reflect the content of this routine containing a variety of difficult skills – layout to two feet, Y turn, Onodi, as well as great amplitude in leaps and a sky high double pike dismount. Here’s to a new beginning for Larsson who must have needed a boost of confidence after two more lackluster years in terms of results. She was followed on the beam podium by Ayelen Tarabini from Argentina. Ayelen had an ambitious routine, full of spectacular elements, but which lacked a little bit of fluidity. Tzuf Feldon from Israel and Charlotte Sullivan from New Zealand, with a confident routine which featured a spin an attitude, tied for the 3rd place.

The Argentinian also won a silver medal on floor (13.425/5.4). Here she had the best execution of the day but was outshined in difficulty by Dorina Boczogo. The Hungarian, once an event finalist at Euros, managed to hit a beautifully choreographed routine which opened with a clean full in double pike followed by a double front and a double Y turn(13.650/5.5) . The two were joined on the podium by Sasa Golob from Slovenia (13.225/5.4)
