The Varna World Challenge Cup wrapped up in Bulgaria today, May 15th. The Balance Beam Final was special in and of itself, with no falls and a relatively comparable and therefore competitive field. Beginning with a beautiful round-off to layout, France’s Marine Boyer executed a quite clean and carefully measured beam routine to win the title there, posting a 14.500.
She was followed by Vietnam’s Thi Ha Thanh Phan, who won the silver medal with a 14.367, and Switzerland’s Ilaria Kaieslin, who won the bronze medal with a 14.100.
In the Floor Exercise Final, Switzerland’s Giulia Steingruber showcased her new routine and gave another “catch me if you can” performance, opening with a full-twisting DLO, followed by a DLO and full twisting double back. She was followed by teammate Ilaria Kaeslin, who added a silver medal to her bronze with a 13. 933, and Russia’s Evgenia Shelgunova, who placed third with a 13.767.
