Following the two stages of the Olympic trials, the Netherlands have selected the members of the 2016 Rio team:
Sanne Wevers (24), member of the Dutch team at the 2010, 2013, 2014 and 2016 Worlds. She has earned individual success late in her career: in 2015 when she won individual medals at Europeans (bronze on bars) and Worlds (silver on beam). Consistently scoring in the 15s or more for her 6.7 difficulty beam routine, Sanne was never going to be left out of the team. Maxing out the chances for individual finals and individual medals was said to be one of the scopes of the Olympic selection and Sanne fits this criteria perfectly. Her weakness is that she doesn’t compete vault and floor and to avoid any risks the team was built around her with the best all arounders in the nation.
Eythora Thorsdottir (17), a balance beam finalist last year at Worlds, she has dominated the two Durch Olympic trials with the highest all around scores (totals of over 57). She is known for her exquisite beam execution and for her great music interpretation on floor. With a 6.2 difficulty on beam she could qualify for the beam event final alongside an all around final.
Lieke Wevers (24) she has been a part of the Dutch team for the 2015 European Games and 2015 Worlds in Glasgow. At the European games she has won four medals: gold on beam, bronze on floor, in the all around and in the team competition. She also qualified for the floor final at Worlds.
Celine Van Gerner (21) represented the Netherlands at the 2012 Olympics where placed 12th in the all arund. The team will be able to count on all of her routines in qualifications. Here is Celine’s bars routine at the 2016 Dutch Nationals when she scored in the mid 14s:
Vera Van Pol (22) has represented the Netherlands at the 2013, 2014 and 2015 Worlds and will be a great contributor especially on vault and floor:
