Romania and Canada dominated the competition, winning among the two teams, all the titles in the elite junior competition. Romania, with two juniors from Izvorani -Asiana Peng, Andreea Ciurusniuc – and two from Deva – Maria Holbura, Corina Gaianu- won the team competition, followed by Belgium (Galofaro, Pitti, Medina-Severino) and Canada (Laird, Soloski).
Sydney Soloski, the 2013 Canadian junior beam Champion, won the all around title 52.332, after scores in the mid and high 13s on vault and beam. She was followed on the podium by Romanian Andreea Ciurusniuc (51.549). Ciurusniuc is a little gymnast (born in 2000) with big tricks on all events – FTY, full in dismount on bars, good difficulty on beam and floor. On 3rd place placed Sydney Laird of Canada (50.716), born in 1999 (find more about Sydney Laird here).
During Sunday’s event finals the two Canadian gymnasts went 1-2 in the vault and uneven bars final (Solosky won vault, Laird won bars).
The final two event titles went to Asiana Peng, who was above the competition in terms of difficulty but also through good execution. On beam she stuck her back tuck full and although gave away planned connections here and there, she managed to keep her nerves in check for the rest of the routine. On floor she controlled well her acro skills and danced with unmatched polish.
The silver medalist from the all around, Andreea Ciurusniuc, also had a good day on Sunday managing to score medals on all events: silver on vault, bronze on bars, silver on beam and gold on floor.
